New Route of the Day – Americas (21 September 2026): Avelo Airlines between New Haven and Houston

HVN-IAH

Houston-based Avelo Airlines transferred its operations from Hobby Airport to Bush Airport on Monday 21 September, launching flights between New Haven and Houston. The 2,375-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with the 737-800 aircraft. The ULCC does not face any competition on the route.

Flight XP303 departs New Haven at 07:30 local time, arriving in Houston at 10:24 local time. The return service, operating as flight XP302, takes off at 11:11 local time, arriving back in Connecticut at 15:45 local time.

What they said

Courtney Goff, Spokesperson at Avelo Airlines, said: “We’ve found that most customers going to Houston are either heading to the north side or staying downtown directly. Bush is more convenient to North Houston while providing a more direct route to downtown. We always wanted to fly into Bush Intercontinental Airport but there wasn’t space.”

Houston Intercontinental delivers strong summer

Houston Intercontinental Airport recorded a strong summer in terms of network development. ITA Airways launched Houston’s first nonstop link to Rome in May, increasing the service from three to 5-weekly flights during the peak season, while Volaris added new routes to Queretaro and Puebla in June.

United Airlines also restored daily flights to Caracas in August following a nine-year suspension.

Across Houston’s two commercial airports, an estimated 4.5 million passengers were processed during the FIFA World Cup travel period from 12 June to 6 July, while international arrivals increased by more than 2%. Houston Intercontinental also handled sixty World Cup-related charter flights, including thirty carrying thirteen national teams.

New Haven Airport continues rapid growth

Tweed New Haven Airport continued its rapid expansion during summer 2026, with Avelo Airlines launching services to Indianapolis and Cleveland in June. The additions broadened the airport’s reach into the Midwest, while Avelo offered flights to 25 destinations from New Haven during the summer and Breeze Airways maintained its own growing network.

Avelo will further expand its New Haven network with the launch of flights to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
