New Route of the Day – Americas (24 January 2026): Porter Airlines between Ottawa and Miami
Porter Airlines introduced flights between Ottawa and Miami on Saturday 24 January. The 2,205-kilometre service will be maintained 3-weekly with E195-E2 aircraft. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.
Flight PD547 departs Ottawa at 10:10 local time, arriving in Miami at 13:55. The return service, operating as flight PD548, takes off at 14:55 local time, touching back down in the Canadian capital at 18:35.
What they said
Susan Margles, President and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority, said: “Florida continues to be a popular destination for sun seekers and snowbirds from the Ottawa-Gatineau area, making the addition of service to Miami great news. We applaud Porter for continuing to expand their network, offering more choice for our community. Through Porter’s partnership with American Airlines via Miami, travellers also gain access to South America and a range of unique destinations across the Caribbean and Mexico.”
Porter to add more US routes
Apart from the new Miami service, Porter Airlines will introduce 3-weekly flights between Ottawa and Phoenix on 7 February. This will mark the first time the Canadian capital has been linked to the Arizona airport, which is another major American hub. In addition, Porter will add a daily Vancouver – Phoenix service on 2 February.
Although the airline is adding new city-pairs between Canada and the US, it had previously discontinued service between Ottawa and Las Vegas.
Canada – US traffic declines
The number of Canadians travelling to or returning from the US has been down overall, according to statistics, but Florida continues to be a popular destination for travellers from the Ottawa-Gatineau area during the winter months. The airport said it had seen a 7% increase in travel to and from the US year-over-year, bucking the general trend.
Statistics Canada’s screened passenger data shows that transborder air passenger traffic (flights to/from the US) was consistently lower through 2025 than in 2024. Based on the latest statistics, from November 2025, transborder screened passengers were down 13.5% year-over-year, marking the tenth consecutive month of declines in 2025.
