What they said
Clay Sun, President of EVA Air, said: “Washington Dulles International Airport serves as a vital gateway to the nation’s capital area. We are immensely grateful for the strong support from all our partners and guests that made expanding our network into the heart of America possible. We see immense market potential in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. This new route will seamlessly enhance EVA Air’s network across the eastern United States, delivering premium service to both business and leisure travellers alike.”
Jack Potter, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, added: “Today we came together to celebrate a historic milestone for Washington Dulles International Airport and the entire National Capital region. For the first time, residents and visitors can enjoy nonstop flights to Taiwan’s premier technological and cultural hub and easily continue a journey to dozens of key destinations across east and southeast Asia. In the same respect, we look forward to welcoming thousands of new visitors who can explore our world-class museums and famed monuments, and savour the rich cultural diversity of Washington, D.C.”
Over 35 airlines now serving Washington IAD
In Q3 2026 (July-September), Washington IAD has 1.9 million one-way international seats. Capacity has exceeded the prior peak summer record, held last year, by almost 2%.
Some 36 airlines will have international service in Q3, with more capacity provided by non-US airlines (59%) than US (41%). That’s because of the DC factor and IAD being a global gateway, along with United being the only US airline operating internationally in this period. The Star Alliance factor is also significant, as 71% of seats are provided by member airlines.
With 777,000 one-way seats, United is overwhelmingly IAD’s single-largest operator. Some 42 international routes are available in Q3, with the most capacity being to the fellow Star hub of Frankfurt. Europe accounts for more than six in ten of its seats, with 18 routes served. Compared to Q3 2025, three international routes have been added.
