Finnair has added the first of two new US destinations that it plans to start serving this year. On Sunday 27 March the oneworld carrier began 4-weekly service between Helsinki and Dallas/Fort Worth in Texas, a major hub for fellow oneworld member American Airlines. The 8,410-kilometre route will be flown on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays using the airline’s A350-900s.

Seattle launches in June but San Francisco dropped

A second new US destination, Seattle, will be launched in June with 3-weekly service. These two new routes will complement the airline’s existing flights from Helsinki to Chicago, Los Angeles and New York JFK. However, service to San Francisco, which operated in 2019, has not (yet) been resumed.

What they said

Caroline Borawski, General Manager, North America at Finnair, said: “As international travel demand picks up, Finnair is pleased to provide customers with our Dallas Fort Worth to Helsinki route launch. The added access to Europe, Scandinavia, Baltics and beyond is meeting both essential and aspirational travel needs and shows the important investment and commitment Finnair is making in North America.”

John Ackerman, EVP of Global Strategy and Development, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, added: “We are thrilled about this new service. It strengthens DFW Airport’s European route options for our customers and further solidifies our commitment to continued growth on the international stage.”

Anmol Bhargava, VP of Alliances at American, noted: “Partnerships mean more routes and more service for our customers around the world. American welcomes our Atlantic Joint Business and oneworld partner, Finnair, to Dallas Fort Worth as their new DFW-Helsinki flight provides more options for customers to reach Finland and the Nordic region, Baltics, and Russia.”
