New Route of the Day – Americas (28 June 2024): Breeze between Tampa and Pensacola

Breeze to Pensacola

Breeze continued expanding its network with the addition of flights between Tampa and Pensacola on Friday 28 June. The short 530-kilometre hop will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, with a mix of A220-300 and E195 aircraft. It will compete directly against Silver Airways’ 2-daily rotations between the two Florida cities, however, Breeze is the only airline to maintain a jet service between the two cities, with its competitor using an ATR42 turboprop.

What they said

David Neeleman, Founder and CEO of Breeze, said: “Today we’re kicking things off in Pensacola. With Breeze’s premium leisure low-cost offering and added affordability, we know that the Pensacola community will enjoy this new jet service to Tampa which hasn’t been served nonstop.”

Matt Coughlin, Director of Pensacola Airport, added: “We are excited to welcome Breeze Airways to Pensacola. This expanded service brings additional travel choices to our customers across the area while being their gateway to the Gulf Coast. The addition of Breeze Airways expands Pensacola International Airport’s connectivity and provides travellers with more options for reaching their destinations while upholding its ‘Fly Easy’ promise.”

Pensacola is among the best-recovered airports in the US

Pensacola is situated in the Florida Panhandle, close to the Alabama border. The airport welcomed a record 2.73 million passengers in 2023, up by a strong 13% from its previous best year (2022) and by a considerable 24% compared to the pre-pandemic 2019. The arrival of Spirit in 2021 and the big growth by Southwest were especially important in this increase. Pensacola ended last year as one of the country’s best-recovered airports.

Eight airlines offer passenger flights to Pensacola. American and Delta are the airport’s two largest operators in Q3 2024. They have more than half of the available seats, rising to about six in ten when United is included.

Breeze is Tampa’s fastest growing airline

Breeze currently boasts 22 destinations out of Tampa, having added 13 since Q2 2023. As a result, the carrier has become Tampa Airport’s fastest growing this summer, increasing both its number of flights and capacity by 39% each in Q3 2024 when compared to the same quarter last year.

The LCC plans to add another new service from the Florida airport with Bangor to launch on 4 October.
