New Route of the Day – Americas (28 May 2026): Alaska Airlines between Seattle and Reykjavik

SEA-KEF

Alaska Airlines commenced seasonal operations between Seattle and Reykjavik on Thursday 28 May. The 5,830- kilometre service will be maintained daily with the 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The carrier will compete against 2-daily Icelandair flights.

Flight AS354 departs Seattle at 20:30 local time, arriving in Reykjavik at 09:00 local time the following morning. The return service, operating as flight AS355, takes off at 12:45 local time, touching back at Tacoma International Airport at 13:40 local time.

Services on the route will run until 8 September.

What they said

Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning at Alaska Airlines, said: “The addition of Reykjavík expands Alaska’s global footprint, connecting our guests with even more of the world through the elevated service they know and love. We’re excited to launch our new nonstop route, bringing travellers closer to the natural magic of Iceland and providing a seamless gateway to Europe.”

Sam Cho, Port of Seattle Commissioner, added: “Alaska Airlines’ international expansion has been a significant milestone for SEA as well as the entire region. It has cemented SEA’s place as a premier global gateway and one of just a few airports to serve as hubs to two long-haul international airlines.”

Alaska Airlines completes Europe expansion for summer 2026

Alaska Airlines introduced its first service to Europe in May by launching flights between Seattle and Rome FCO. This was followed by London LHR on 21 May. Reykjavik is the last new European service announced for the 2026 summer season.

However, Alaska Airlines is targeting at least 12 new long-haul international destinations by 2030, across Europe and Asia.

This expansion has been largely enabled by Alaska Airlines’ recent merger with Hawaiian Airlines, which brought widebody aircraft and long-haul capacity into its fleet.

Almost all new routes from Seattle to Europe are heavily competitive. However, on the Reykjavik route, Alaska Airlines has forged a new bilateral codeshare agreement with Icelandair, enabling passengers to book itineraries that combine flights from both airlines under a single ticket.

Seattle Airport with 36 international destinations

With Alaska Airlines’ recent additions, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport now offers 62 service options to 36 international nonstop destinations on 29 different airlines. Previously this year, Cathay Pacific began service to Hong Kong, while Delta added Rome FCO and Barcelona, complementing Alaska Airlines’ new route launches.
