New Route of the Day – Americas (3 June 2025): Air Canada between Vancouver and Tampa

Air Canada inaugurated seasonal flights between Vancouver and Tampa on Tuesday 3 June. The 4,180-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays departing Vancouver, with the 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The airline will compete against WestJet’s weekly rotation on the route.

Flight AC1064 departs Vancouver at 13:30 local time, arriving in Tampa at 22:12 local time. The return service, operating as flight AC1065, takes off from the Florida airport at 08:15 local time on Wednesdays and Sundays, touching back down in Canada at 11:18 local time.

Air Canada to suspend five US routes over winter

Air Canada has filed plans to exit five US routes over the upcoming winter season, which were initially planned to run year-round. Among them is the new Vancouver – Tampa service. Other routes include Vancouver – Washington IAD, Montreal to both Detroit and Minneapolis, as well as between Toronto YYZ and Indianapolis. All but the Vancouver – Washington IAD service are set to be restored in the summer of 2026.

The cuts don’t touch the largest US markets or key business routes. The reduction in service comes on the back of reduced demand for travel from Canada to the US, as Canadian leisure travellers shift towards Caribbean destinations over the upcoming winter.

Air Canada has said it has options on the US to moderate capacity or to further add back depending on how market conditions evolve.
