New Route of the Day – Americas (3 June 2025): Azul between Porto and Recife

Azul introduced flights between Porto and Recife, the state capital of Pernambuco on Brazil’s northeastern Atlantic coast, on Tuesday 3 June. The 6,090-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays departing Porto, with the 767-300 aircraft. The carrier is the sole operator between the two cities.
What they said
Cesar Grandolfo, Institutional Relations Manager at Azul, said: “Azul is increasingly consolidating itself as a global company, connecting important destinations both in Brazil and abroad. The Porto – Recife route reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding its international operations and creating new connection possibilities for customers, especially those who use our regional network and need to travel to Europe. In addition, it serves as another gateway for foreign tourists to discover the highlights of the Northeast.”
Joao Campos, Mayor of Recife, added: “The route strengthens Recife’s role as Azul’s main hub in the Northeast and one of the main hubs in the country, promoting tourism, boosting our economy and facilitating cultural exchange between Brazil and Portugal. This is yet another demonstration of the strategic potential of our capital, which continues to advance as a gateway to the country and the world.”
Azul is now the second largest between Brazil and Portugal
The new service between Recife and Porto complements the carrier’s existing flights from Sao Paulo VCP to the Portuguese city. Together with its service between Sao Paulo VCP and Lisbon, the carrier now serves Portugal 17-weekly during the 2025 summer season.
Azul holds the second-largest share of the Brazil – Portugal market, which will boast 121-weekly flights this summer. The largest carrier by far is TAP Air Portugal, with a 76% of total capacity between the two countries. It is followed by Azul, which holds a 14% share in seats. LATAM is the smallest, with the remaining 10% of capacity.
