New Route of the Day – Americas (31 May 2024): Breeze between Tampa and Santa Ana

Cake of the week

Breeze inaugurated seasonal flights between Tampa and Santa Ana in California on the last day of May. The 3,420-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, using the carrier’s A220-300 aircraft. It faces no competition between the two cities. This is the first time the two airports have been connected with a nonstop service.

Flight MX520 departs Tampa at 09:57 local time, arriving in Santa Ana at 12:01 local time. The return service, operating as MX521, takes off from the Orange County airport at 12:45 local time, touching back down in Florida at 20:19 local time.

Breeze’s focus is on connecting underserved markets, adding nonstops between cities without existing service. As we continue to introduce new service from Tampa, we’re proud to bring four affordable and convenient new travel options to our Guests in Tampa.”

Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa Airport, added: “We are thrilled to add a sought-after West Coast destination with this Breeze service to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport, giving TPA travellers a nonstop option to a California region well-known as both a business nexus and tourist playground,”

Breeze is Tampa’s fastest growing airline

Breeze currently boasts 21 destinations out of Tampa, having added 12 since Q2 2023. As a result, the carrier has become Tampa Airport’s fastest growing this summer, increasing both its number of flights and capacity by 66% each in Q2 2024 when compared to the same quarter last year.

The LCC plans to add a further two routes from the Florida airport with Pensacola to launch 28 June, while Bangor will be added on 4 October.

The latest addition to Tampa’s network, Santa Ana, is located in the Greater Los Angeles region of Southern California. It has a diverse population of just over 310,000 with four-fifths being Hispanic or Latino.  Served by John Wayne Airport, it handled 11.7 million passengers in 2023, well over the 10.7 million during the pre-pandemic 2019.
