What they said

Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales for the Americas at the Lufthansa Group, said: “Adding direct access to Munich, Lufthansa’s Bavarian hub alongside Frankfurt, is a welcome development for our customers throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as the United States at large. The United States is Lufthansa Group’s most important market outside of the home markets, and so this new nonstop service between Munich and Seattle marks a significant step forward in connecting travellers and fostering economic ties between Germany and the US west coast.”

Hamdi Mohamed, Port of Seattle Commission President, said: “For years, companies in the Pacific Northwest have been doing business and making connections in Munich. This new flight brings us that much closer to driving our innovation economy forward. The Commission values a diverse and dynamic Port to ensure economic resiliency for our region. In that way and others, we share a lot of similarities with Munich, especially as a hub for tech and research. We’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors and business connections through this shared gateway.”

Lufthansa expands US network

Lufthansa’s new Munich – Seattle service complements its existing 6-weekly operations between Frankfurt and the US city, for a total of 10-weekly operations. This expansion adds to the German carrier’s growing North America network, which include new services launching this summer from Frankfurt to both Minneapolis-St. Paul and Raleigh-Durham.

Lufthansa is also increasing capacity on flights between Munich and Washington IAD by introducing the A380 aircraft on the route.

As part of the Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and Discover, there has been further expansion in North America. This summer has already seen SWISS launch new flights from Zurich to Washington IAD and Toronto YYZ.  Furthermore, Austrian Airlines will launch flights between Vienna and Boston this summer and will deploy its new 787-9 aircraft on the popular New York JFK route.
