New Route of the Day – Americas (4 June 2024): Lufthansa between Frankfurt and Minneapolis

FRA-MSP

Lufthansa added its latest transatlantic service between Frankfurt and Minneapolis on Tuesday 4 June. The 7,070-kilometre route will be maintained 5-weekly, each day except on Wednesdays and Fridays, with the 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. It competes against Condor’s 4-weekly rotations between the two cities.

Flight LH482 departs Frankfurt at 11:10 local time, arriving in Minneapolis at 13:15 local time, while the return flight, LH483, departs the Minnesota airport at 15:05 local time and lands back in Germany at 06:30 local time the following morning.

What they said

Dirk Janzen, Vice President of passenger sales for the Americas at the Lufthansa Group, said: “The launch of this route serves as a main bedrock of our summer expansion plan in the United States, the most important market outside of the group’s home markets, and we could not be happier to add more opportunities and capacity into and out of the US.”

Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, added: “We are excited to welcome Lufthansa to MSP as our newest international airline. This new service addresses growing demand for travel to Germany and other European destinations. More than 35,500 passengers are projected to travel from MSP to Germany, while nearly 365,000 are expected to fly to Europe from MSP. Lufthansa not only helps meet that demand, but also gives passengers new options for reaching other parts of the globe.”

Minneapolis with record Europe capacity

Capacity to Europe from Minneapolis is at an all-time high, with 28% more seats than a year ago and 14% more than the previous high set in 2019.

Lufthansa is the third European carrier to commence flights to Minneapolis this year. Air France launched a daily service from Paris CDG on 29 April, having previously served the route between May 2013 and September 2019, then in the summer of 2021 and 2022. On the same day, Aer Lingus recommenced Dublin (4-weekly), having served it between July 2019 and April 2020. As soon as Aer Lingus announced the return of the route, Delta added it too (starting on 9 May; 4-weekly).

Apart from the new arrivals, Delta, KLM, Icelandair and Condor all link Minneapolis to Europe.
