YUL-CTA

Air Canada inaugurated a new transatlantic service on Thursday 4 June by launching seasonal flights between Montreal and Catania in Sicily. The 7,085-kilometre journey will be maintained 3-weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The Star Alliance member is the sole operator between the two cities.

Operations will be maintained until 23 October.

What they said

Margaret Skinner, Senior Director of Sales EMEAI at Air Canada, said: “We are pleased to inaugurate the new direct flight between Catania and Montreal. This connection strengthens the deep ties that unite Sicily and Canada and will offer new opportunities to families, businesses, and communities living and operating on both sides of the Atlantic. It will also help support the growth of tourist flows and cultural exchanges between the two territories. Thanks to this new flight, passengers departing from Sicily will have easy access to the entire international network of Air Canada and will be able to reach numerous destinations in Canada, North America, and the rest of the world more conveniently.”

Anna Quattrone, President of airport operator SAC, added: “This new route strengthens the process of internationalisation of Sicily and consolidates Catania’s role as a strategic hub in the Mediterranean. We continue to work to expand the network of intercontinental connections and make Sicily increasingly connected to major international destinations.”

Catania welcomes its second North America route

Catania is Italy’s fifth-busiest airport and Sicily’s busiest. The new Air Canada service is the second transatlantic operation to be maintained from Catania, complementing Delta Air Lines, which launched year-round flights from New York JFK in 2025.

Ryanair is Catania’s largest airline, accounting for 40% of the airport’s capacity. The airline has 40 routes in Q3, of which Rome FCO is number one. Italy’s capital and busiest airport is one of 17 domestic airports served by the carrier from Catania.
