New Route of the Day – Americas (4 March 2023): American between State College and Charlotte

SCE-CLT

American has started limited operations between State College in Pennsylvania, which is served by University Park Airport (IATA code SCE), and Charlotte in North Carolina on 4 March. The 675-kilometre route is operated weekly by the oneworld carrier’s partner Piedmont Airlines and its 48-seat E145 aircraft. Flight AA5999 departs the Pennsylvania airport each Saturday at 07:00 local time and arrives at 08:57. The return flight, AA6094, departs Charlotte at 20:57 local time, landing in State College at 22:40 local time.

What they said

James Meyer, Executive Director of the Centre County Airport Authority, said: “With the strong backing of the community, we expect the Charlotte service to expand to twice daily, year-round, by early next year, if not sooner. The effort got an added boost through the research of terminal manager Jason McMurtrie, who found that out of the 84 airports from which American flies to Philadelphia, SCE was the only one without a flight to Charlotte. That surprised them.”

American plans nine flights on State College route

American will maintain limited operations between State College and Charlotte, with a total of nine return trips planned. The last service is scheduled for 29 April. American is said to be trialling the route during the busy spring travel season.

State College is home to University Park campus of Penn State University. Over 40,000 people are estimated to be living in State College. University Park Airport, which is owned by the Pennsylvania State University, is served by regional partners of American, Delta and United. In addition to the new Charlotte service, American also maintains operations between State College and Philadelphia (24-weekly with up to five daily flights). Delta serves New York LGA (2-daily) while United has connections to New York EWR (2-daily) and Chicago ORD (3-daily).
