What they said

Jose Freig, Vice President of International Operations at American, said: “We are thrilled to inaugurate the first-ever American Airlines connection between Southern Italy and the United States of America. The introduction of the new direct flight between Naples and Philadelphia, American’s main transatlantic hub on the East Coast, meets the growing demand for connections between the United States and Southern Italy, and we are excited to offer our passengers more choices to explore the Italian coasts and beyond. We are also confident that this new connection will further strengthen the economic and cultural ties between our two nations.”

Roberto Barbieri, CEO of airport operator Gesac, added: “The direct flight from Naples to Philadelphia by American Airlines, one of the leading US airlines, further strengthens the intercontinental segment and is part of the quality offering of Naples Airport, which this year includes 116 destinations, mostly international, including 20 hubs. This is a prestigious and advantageous connection both in terms of incoming, with high-spending tourism arriving in our region, and outgoing, because it brings Campania and Southern Italy closer to the rest of the world through the Philadelphia hub of the company, from which it is possible to reach over 85 destinations not only in the United States but also in Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico.”

American now operates 15-daily Philadelphia to Europe flights

American is now offering 15-daily nonstop flights from Philadelphia Airport to 14 European destinations, marking the largest transatlantic schedule from the airport since 2019. Philadelphia serves as American’s biggest hub for European operations, although the overall number of routes served has fallen from 19 prior to the pandemic.

In addition to Nice, American’s European destinations from Philadelphia include Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Dublin, Lisbon, London LHR, Madrid, Paris CDG, Rome FCO, Venice, and Zurich. Seasonal daily services to Naples will launch on 5 June, while daily summer flights to Copenhagen will commence a day later.

American is introducing a total of four new European destinations to its network this year, three of which are from Philadelphia. The fourth is a new service between Dallas/Fort-Worth and Barcelona.

American plans to operate more than 300 peak-day departures from its Philadelphia hub this summer. Between 17 May and 3 September, the airline expects to serve nearly 3.5 million customers from Philadelphia and offer 23% more seats compared to last summer.
