New Route of the Day – Americas (7 February 2024): Breeze between Tampa and Madison

Breeze inaugurated flights between Tampa and Madison in Wisconsin on Wednesday 7 February. The 1,790-kilometre service will be maintained 2-weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the 137-seat A220-300 aircraft. The LCC faces no competition on the route.

Flight MX130 departs Tampa at 07:00 local time, arriving in Madison at 07:15 local time. The return service, operating as flight MX131, takes off from the Wisconsin airport at 10:00 local time, touching back down in Florida at 14:05 local time.

What they said

Kim Jones, Director of Dane County Regional Airport, sad: “The team here at the airport worked diligently to try to bring new service to the airport as often as we can and for the community. We are thrilled to have Breeze on board as an exciting new partner. Passengers from south-central Wisconsin can now enjoy the low-cost airfares and state-of-the-art equipment from Breeze Airways. This is just the beginning of what we anticipate will be a successful and popular new airline here at MSN.”

Breeze enters Madison market

Madison, with a population of just over a quarter of a million people, is the capital city of Wisconsin. The new Tampa service marks Breeze’s entry onto the Madison market with the carrier planning to further expand its operations.

On 14 February the airline introduces services from Orlando MCO to Madison, followed by flights from Los Angeles to the Wisconsin capital on 22 May. The pair will be operated on a seasonal basis, in winter and summer, respectively, while Tampa will be maintained as a year-round route out of Madison.

Madison opens brand new terminal

The new Breeze service comes just eight months after Madison Dane County Regional Airport opened its new south terminal, which has enabled it to pursue more flights. The new terminal features three new gates. With two stories, the top floor includes the gates, while the bottom floor features maintenance workshops.

The airport has launched the second and final phase of the project, which involves the demolition of the former south end of the airport to add another three new gates.

Although Dane County Regional Airport has not released its passenger figures for 2023 yet, it has said it will be its third busiest on record, with just over two million travellers passing through its terminal.
