Air Canada began seasonal flights between Montreal and Belize on Monday 8 December. The 3,380-kilometre service will be maintained weekly with the A319 aircraft. The carrier faces no competition between the two cities.

Flight AC1876 departs at 17:45 local time, arriving in Belize at 22:05 local time. The return service, operating as flight AC1877, takes off on Tuesdays at 11:00 local time, arriving back in Canada at 16:35 local time.

The route will be maintained until 7 April.

What they said

Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Belize, said: “Through this new partnership, Canadians and other international travellers alike, will have ample opportunity to conveniently access one of the fastest-growing tropical destinations in the world. Whether it be our unique and breathtaking natural attractions, our diverse culture and traditions, Belize provides a perfect getaway ambience filled with adventure, fun and curiosity. This partnership is also no coincidence. It also is no coincidence that Belize is quickly becoming a popular destination for Canadian outbound travellers. Canada and Belize have a long history of bilateral cooperation and as members of the Commonwealth both countries share historical traditions, systems of government and some may argue even some cultural ties. The importance of the Canadian market for Belize can certainly not be overstated.  Canada continues to maintain its status as the second largest tourism market for Belize after the United States.”

Air Canada grows Latin America operations

This winter season, Air Canada has implemented its largest network expansion to Latin America to date with 16% more seat capacity over last winter. Apart from Belize, other highlights include new destinations to Rio de Janeiro GIG, Cartagena, Guatemala City and Guadalajara. The carrier is also adding 13 new routes including to Santiago, Pointe-a-Pitre, Fort-de-France, Nassau, Montego Bay and Huatulco, along with additional frequencies to popular vacation destinations.

In total, with over 55-daily flights and more than 80,000 seats weekly, Air Canada now offers the largest Latin America network of any Canadian carrier flying to the region.

The expansion comes as Canadian carriers redirect some capacity away from US routes toward sun destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, where leisure demand is stronger. Transborder routes to the US have seen reductions this winter, partly due to economic and political frictions dampening demand between the two countries.
