New Route of the Day – Americas (9 March 2022): Allegiant between Toledo and Phoenix AZA
Allegiant began non-stop service on Wednesday 9 March between Toledo in Ohio and Phoenix-Mesa in Arizona. The 2,620-kilometre route will be flown on Wednesdays and Saturdays by the airline’s A320 fleet. The connection is currently only being offered until 14 May, with the route returning later in the year, still 2-weekly, on 5 October.
American is only other carrier in Toledo
Branded as Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (named after a locally born, retired NASA flight director), the facility currently welcomes two airlines, Allegiant and American. In addition to this new service to Arizona, Allegiant is offering non-stop service to three destinations in Florida; Orlando SFB, Punta Gorda and St. Pete/Clearwater, all of which are flown 2-weekly. In addition, American offers 2-daily service to its hub at Chicago ORD using ERJ-145s operated by a combination of Envoy Air and Piedmont Airlines. American also previously offered daily service from Toledo to its base at Charlotte, but this service ceased on 7 October 2021 according to Cirium schedule data.
For British people of a certain age (like myself) the name Toledo is synonymous with a family saloon car of the early 1970s made by British Leyland using the Triumph brand. For anyone who might feel nostalgic at this reference (or just plain curious) check out the car’s Wikipedia page here.
