New Routes of the Day (16 March 2026): Wizz Air’s new routes from Bratislava

Wizz Air at Bratislava

Wizz Air introduced several new routes from its Bratislava base on Monday 16 March and Tuesday 17 March.

  • 16 March: Berlin (4-weekly)
  • 16 March: Rome FCO (9-weekly)
  • 16 March: Tirana (3-weekly)
  • 17 March: Dortmund (3-weekly)
  • 17 March: Ohrid (3-weekly)
  • 17 March: Pristina (4-weekly)

All routes will be maintained with the A321neo aircraft. The carrier faces competition only on the Tirana service, which is also maintained by Ryanair 4-weekly.

Wizz Air moves Vienna base to Bratislava

The growth in Bratislava comes following Wizz Air’s decision to shut its Vienna base on 17 March after eight years. The LCC has said the Austrian capital is no longer compatible with its ultra-low-cost business model, citing high taxes, ground service fees and other costs as reasons for the decision.

Wizz Air will introduce a further five new routes from Bratislava in 2026. They include Warsaw WAW and Tuzla on 29 March, Tel Aviv on 30 March, Nice on 31 March and Podgorica on 21 May.

The airline began phasing out operations from Vienna in October 2025. As a result, a number of its routes are being moved from the Austrian capital to Bratislava instead. The Slovak capital is just 80 kilometres from Vienna.

Bratislava Airport continues record run

Bratislava Airport closed 2025 as its most successful year on record. It handled 2,438,215 passengers, representing an increase of 25% year-on-year.

Of the record 28 new scheduled routes launched in 2025, Wizz Air introduced 14 new services, Ryanair 12, while Norwegian and Arkia Israeli Airlines each launched one new route from Bratislava.

The start to 2026 has followed in similar fashion, on the back of a number of new Wizz Air route launches. During the first two months of the year, Bratislava Airport handled a record 408,000 passengers, an increase of 151%.

Among the most popular destinations in February were direct flights from Bratislava to Barcelona, London, Kosice, Alicante, Naples and Malaga.
