New Routes of the Day (17 July 2026): AnimaWings’ new routes from Cluj-Napoca

Animwings

Romanian carrier AnimaWings introduced two new routes from Cluj-Napoca on Friday 17 July, to Frankfurt and Vienna. Both the 2-weekly 1,175-kilometre service to Frankfurt and the weekly 580-kilometre route to Vienna will be operated with the 148-seat A220-300 aircraft. The airline does not face any competition on either of the two routes.

What they said

Marius Pandel, CEO and Co-founder of AnimaWings, said: “Cluj-Napoca becomes one of AnimaWings’ main regional hubs, and the launch of direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt confirms our investments in the development of the regional network. Through these new routes, we connect Transylvania with two of the most important European economic centres and respond to a real demand from the business environment, passengers travelling for personal or tourist purposes, and Romanian communities in Europe. We continue to invest in Cluj and regional airports, with the objective of offering direct, efficient connections and full-service services to relevant destinations for Romania.”

David Ciceo, General Manager of Cluj Airport, added: “Through consistent efforts by the airport management, today we are witnessing the resumption of direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt, which represents a new step in the development of Cluj International Airport’s connectivity. The two destinations will support the business environment but also passengers travelling for personal or tourist purposes, as well as those seeking fast connections to the global air transport network. We are pleased that AnimaWings is expanding its operations from Cluj-Napoca and contributing, including through the other routes already operated, to the diversification of travel options available to our passengers, here in Cluj-Napoca, the main air gateway to Transylvania.”

AnimaWings is Cluj-Napoca’s third-largest airline

With these additions, AnimaWings continues to expand its presence in Cluj-Napoca, where it also serves Bucharest, Istanbul IST, Athens, Thessaloniki, Olbia, Zakynthos and Antalya, offering passengers an increasingly diverse network from Transylvania.

The carrier was launched in 2020 by the founders of the tour operator Christian Tour. It operates a fleet of six A220-300s and two A320s. The carrier plans to have a fleet of 14 aircraft by the end of 2027.

AnimaWings is now Cluj-Napoca’s third-largest carrier by available seat capacity, behind Wizz Air and Ryanair.
