New Routes of the Day – Americas (13 August 2024): Frontier Airlines’ new routes from Boston

BOS-DFW

Frontier Airlines selected Tuesday 13 August to launch the first two of its three new routes from Boston.

  • 13 August: Atlanta (daily)
  • 13 August: Charlotte (daily)
  • 14 August: Dallas DFW (4-weekly)

The three routes face significant competition. Services between Atlanta and Boston will be maintained with a mix of A320s and A321s, going head-to-head against JetBlue’s 14-weekly flights, Delta’s 74-weekly, and Spirit Airlines’ 14-weekly.

The Charlotte – Boston service, which will run with the A320neo aircraft, will compete against American’s 61-weekly rotations, JetBlue’s 11-weekly, and Delta’s 32-weekly flights.

On the Dallas DFW – Boston route, which will be maintained on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with a mix of A320-family aircraft, the ULCC will compete against American’s 48-weekly flights, JetBlue’s daily service, Delta’s 21-weekly rotations, and Spirit Airlines 5-weekly flights.

What they said

Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said: “We’re thrilled to expand service from Boston, providing affordable and convenient travel to Georgia, North Carolina, Texas and beyond. These new routes support our mission to bring ‘The New Frontier’ to markets across the country, providing exceptional value and a superior travel experience to consumers in the greater Boston area.”

Frontier Airlines now serves eight routes from Boston

The three new additions to Frontier Airlines’ Boston network join Cincinnati, Orlando MCO, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Juan.

Frontier Airlines now maintains 53-weekly departures from Boston. Of those, the most frequent is its Philadelphia service, with 2-daily departures, followed by the newly added Atlanta and Charlotte, as well as San Juan, which all operate daily. The ULCC maintains Raleigh-Durham 6-weekly, while its remaining destinations from Boston are all 4-weekly.

As Frontier Airlines looks to increase revenue, it has rolled out “The New Frontier”, featuring transparent pricing and no change or cancelation fees. The company also unveiled UpFront Plus, an upgraded seating option where travellers in the first two rows of the aircraft enjoy extra leg and elbow room and a guaranteed empty middle seat, in an attempt to capture more premium travellers.

Frontier Airlines is also deferring deliveries of 54 Airbus jets to between 2029 to 2031. Frontier previously expected to get the deliveries for the jets from 2025 to 2028.
