New Routes of the Day – Americas (13 July 2021): Frontier’s two new routes from Portland, Maine
Portland International Jetport in Maine (IATA code PWM) welcomed two new Frontier Airlines routes on Tuesday 13 July. The ULCC began 4-weekly service (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays) to both Atlanta in Georgia and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania using its A320 fleet. The 1,650-kilometre route to Atlanta is already served 12-weekly by Delta and the 590-kilometre route to Philadelphia is served 4-daily by American Airlines, so neither destination is new for Portland PWM. However, it does mean passengers now have a choice for travel on these two routes.
Frontier now serving six routes from Portland
These two new routes bring to six the number of routes served by Frontier from Portland PWM this summer. Its other services are to Orlando (3-weekly), Raleigh/Durham (2-weekly), Tampa (2-weekly) and Myrtle Beach (weekly, launched on 13 June). It also serves Fort Myers in Florida during the winter season and has previously also served Denver, between July 2018 and November 2019.
Frontier’s 16-weekly flights account for just 4.4% of Portland’s weekly flights. However, in seat terms the carrier offers 8.7% of the seats on offer at the airport thanks to its use of 186-seat A320s. Frontier now ranks fifth for seat capacity at Portland PWM, behind American, United, Delta and Southwest. Portland PWM had its busiest ever year in 2019 when 2.18 million passengers used the airport. In 2020, that number fell by 64% to 793,000.
