New Routes of the Day – Americas (24 June 2021): Spirit Airlines at Milwaukee

Spirit MKE launch 1Thursday 24 June 2021 saw Spirit Airlines begin service at Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport in Wisconsin. The ULCC began daily service to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Orlando using its A320s. During the celebrations at the airport, the airline announced four new, daily, domestic routes starting 17 November (to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Phoenix and Tampa) plus a 3-weekly service to Cancun starting on 23 December. The new service to Los Angeles faces no direct competition. However, the Las Vegas and Orlando routes are both already flown by Southwest (with up to four daily flights) and Frontier (with 4-weekly flights).

What they said

John Kirby, VP Network Planning for Spirit Airlines, said: “We see a vibrant future full of new opportunities for travel here in the Badger State. We’re excited to nearly triple our convenient, non-stop flights to exciting destinations. We can’t wait to take more Milwaukee Guests to ‘sun and sand’ destinations and bring travellers from all over to enjoy Wisconsin’s great festivals, sports scene and fun outdoor activities.”

Brian Dranzik, Airport Director, Milwaukee County Airport, said: “It’s just a great feeling being here today to welcome new air service to Milwaukee. When you think about where we were a year ago, it’s hard to imagine that we would be introducing a new airline here at MKE, let alone one that’s expanding so quickly. Spirit Airlines is now up to eight non-stop destinations from MKE, which provides Milwaukee travellers even more connections to where they want to go.”

David Crowley, Milwaukee County Executive, said: “Spirit Airlines’ bright yellow planes are now taking off from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. And the fact that Spirit is expanding so quickly is a great reflection of the bright future it signifies for our hometown airport. Spirit brings affordable fares to popular destinations which will make it easier for our Milwaukee travellers to connect with their friends and family this summer and beyond.”
