Spirit is continuing to grow its presence in San Antonio in Texas with the introduction of daily flights to Baltimore/Washington and Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday 8 March. Services on both routes are being maintained with the 182-seat A320. The ULCC faces competition from Southwest which offers a daily alternative from Baltimore/Washington and a weekly service from Fort Lauderdale.

The 2,270-kilometre route from Baltimore/Washington departs as flight NK1747 at 20:59 local time, arriving in San Antonio at 23:58. The return service, NK1739, leaves San Antonio at 15:48 local time, landing in Baltimore/Washington at 20:07. The 1,185-kilometre journey from Fort Lauderdale departs the Florida airport as flight NK1738 at 12:28 local time, arriving in San Antonio at 14:56. Flight NK1737 leaves San Antonio at 07:20 local time and arrives in Fort Lauderdale at 11:10.

What they said

Lania Rittenhouse, Vice President of Guest Experience, Brand & Communications for Spirit Airlines, said: “It’s exciting to kick off our new service with plans to grow and give San Antonio travellers even more low-fare options to explore popular vacation destinations.”

Spirit to operate five San Antonio routes

Spirit launched its first new route to San Antonio in 14 years back in November when it commenced a daily service from Las Vegas and Orlando MCO. Following the introduction of flights from Baltimore/Washington and Fort Lauderdale, the ULCC will also add 11-weekly operations from Los Angeles on 5 May.

San Antonio is the second biggest city in Texas with a population of over 1.4 million people, making it also the seventh most populous city in the whole of the US after New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix and Philadelphia. San Antonio handled almost 9.5 million passengers in 2022, a 27% increase over the 2021 total and within less than 9% of the airport’s historic high mark set in 2019.
