Oman Air begins Copenhagen flights; now serves 11 European cities

On 20 December, Oman Air introduced its first service from Muscat to Copenhagen, with 2-weekly 737 MAX 8 flights. Unusually, the route stops in Baghdad in both directions, with fifth freedom traffic rights. The Iraq-Denmark market is an important reason why the route started.
It is the oneworld airline’s only one-stop operation to Europe. Despite this, Cirium schedule data shows that it has had them in the past, most recently about a decade ago. However, flights previously stopped in another European city. Until now, they have not stopped in a Middle Eastern city, at least not in the past 20 years.

The most European seats since 2021
According to Cirium schedule information, Oman Air plans 209,000 one-way seats to Europe in Q1 2026 (January-March). The continent accounts for just over a fifth of the airline’s Q1 capacity from its Muscat hub. Of course, it plays a disproportionately larger role in terms of transfer traffic.
While Oman Air’s European seats are down by 18% compared to Q1 2019, the whole Middle East-Europe market has risen by 14% during the same time. As such, its share of the vast market has fallen. It now has just over 1%.

Oman Air is the 12th-largest operator between the Middle East and Europe, although it ranks eighth when only Middle Eastern airlines are included. The Omani flag carrier has a stronger European presence than Gulf Air (198,000 one-way seats), Royal Jordanian (193,000) and Kuwait Airways (187,000).
Oman Air serves 11 European airports in Q1
All of Oman Air’s European routes operated from Muscat. Multiple markets have joined its network recently. For example, Rome FCO flights began on 20 December 2024 (4-weekly in mid-January 2026), followed by Amsterdam on 23 June 2025 (4) and Copenhagen (as mentioned earlier).
In the past few years, Oman Air has ceased flying to Athens (2020), Manchester (2020) and Moscow DME (2020). Flights to Moscow SVO materialised in 2022.
With 49,700 one-way seats in Q1, London LHR is Oman Air’s leading European market. When its full network is considered, Cirium data shows it ranks fourth out of 44 airports served from Muscat in these three months. Only Salalah, Bangkok BKK and Jeddah have more capacity. In mid-January, it has 11-weekly departing flights to LHR, up from daily 12 months ago.
