Record year for Memmingen Airport

The bar was set high – and yet it was cleared with ease. With nearly 3.7 million passengers in 2025, Memmingen Airport achieved a new record result and has committed itself to a course of consolidation for the current year.
The self-imposed target of 3.5 million passengers for 2025 was already exceeded before Christmas. Now the final figures are available, and Airport Managing Director Ralf Schmid draws a positive conclusion: “We have achieved our goals; our ambitious expectations have been met.” In concrete terms, southern Germany’s leading low-cost airport recorded a total of 3,698,900 passengers, representing an increase of 14.09 percent compared with the previous year, when 3,242,090 passengers were carried.”
Schmid adds, “One of the key success factors behind the high load factors and the continually expanding range of destinations is the distinctive “Memmingen mix.” Alongside classic holiday destinations, this includes a substantial number of routes, particularly to Eastern Europe, which are used primarily by commuters as well as by people visiting friends and relatives. Especially for professionals in nursing, hospitality and gastronomy, who are urgently needed in Germany, we are a very important link between home and workplace.”
Memmingen Airport is also playing an increasingly important role as an incoming airport, welcoming numerous skiers from all over Europe in winter and many visitors to Bavaria and the neighbouring Alpine regions in summer.
This special mix of destinations is also reflected in the ranking of the most popular routes. In the past year, flights to Tirana and Palma de Mallorca were particularly in demand. Other heavily frequented destinations, each with more than 100,000 passengers, included Pristina, Belgrade, Sofia, London Stansted, Skopje, Banja Luka and Bucharest.
In total, more than 35,546 movements were recorded, an increase of 12.3%. Scheduled services, which grew disproportionately by 14.41%, accounted for the lion’s share. The business jet segment, whose advantages are particularly valued by the local economy, is also continuing to develop steadily.
Memmingen Airport targets moderate growth in 2026
For the current year, Memmingen Airport is targeting moderate growth of around five percent. The rapid development of recent years now needs to be consolidated.
“Consolidation and digitalisation will be the main focus, especially in the first half of the year,” explains Ralf Schmid.
Infrastructure expansion will also continue. Thanks to the reduction in the aviation tax, he expects accelerated growth in the second half of the year, as airlines were waiting for this signal and will respond accordingly.
As early as late March, Targu Mures will reappear in the Memmingen’s flight schedule.
The Romanian city will once again be served by Wizz Air three times a week.
Ralf Schmid also extends his sincere thanks to the airport team, whose commitment was crucial to the airport’s success. The strong relationship with airline partners – above all Ryanair and Wizz Air – has been another key factor.’
Over the past year, the airport with a mountain view once again lived up to its reputation as a stable economic and location factor for the region. While 388 employees worked for Memmingen Airport GmbH and its subsidiary ALLgate GmbH, which is responsible for passenger and aircraft handling, at the start of 2025, this number had risen to 432 employees by year-end. This figure also includes 12 new trainees and students.
