Fueled by a record number of passengers in 2023 and substantial capital investments from expanding companies in northern Nevada, Reno–Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is emerging as an important contributor to the region’s economic growth. The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is taking steps to ensure it can meet both current and future needs of passengers and tenants.

In 2023, RNO served 4.6 million passengers, marking its busiest year since 2008. This notable achievement was driven by a combination of factors: an influx of new residents, continued interest in the Reno-Tahoe region as a leisure destination, and a growing business sector as the area establishes itself as a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) and lithium battery industry.

To prepare for the anticipated growth in the coming decades, the RTAA has embarked on a billion-dollar, multi-year infrastructure program, MoreRNO, set to propel the airport into a new era.

The forward-thinking project aligns with the region’s expansion and ensures that RNO not only keeps pace with the increased demand for flights, but also the thriving tourism and gaming scenes, complementing the year-round outdoor adventures that are unique to Reno-Tahoe.

The MoreRNO program will nearly double the size of the ticketing hall, replace existing concourses, increase concession space by 40%, and dramatically improve the airport’s parking and ground transportation experience.
