Rich summer season for Geneva Airport

Following the recovery of pre-pandemic traffic last year, 2025 marks a strengthening of Geneva Airport’s destination offering.  As a reward for our efforts on the long-haul sector, we see a first success this in June with a new direct route between Shanghai and Geneva, operated by China Eastern with 4 weekly frequencies. This makes Geneva the only airport in Switzerland with the two Chinese main cities served and above all with two Chinese carriers!

Many other new routes or new airlines are added to our network for this summer season. Looking towards the Middle East, Gulf Air will serve Bahrain and FlyNas will serve Riyad for the first time. Our existing long-haul routes are also proving their good performance with some frequency increase: Ethiopian Airlines and Air China will go up to 6 weekly flights, both with brand new A350. This is a good sign that our New Gen incentive is having positive impact among our airline partners.

Air Serbia is launching Belgrade-Geneva, to serve the Serbian diaspora, but also to propose good connections to the Balkans, the Middle East and Russia. A new Geneva-Tbilisi route operated by easyJet has shown already promising bookings.

Strong Swiss economy

This market demand is driven by Switzerland’s resilient economy, especially in key sectors such as finance, trading, watchmaking, luxury goods, and  chemicals. Geneva’s diplomatic activity is another major driver, ensuring a steady flow of year-round travelers. Additionally, strong leisure demand is fueled by the significant purchasing power of people living within GVA’s catchment area, which is notably higher than in neighboring countries.

Untapped long-haul demand

Despite these positive trends, Geneva Airport still has untapped potential in several intercontinental markets, particularly in Asia and the Americas. Singapore stands out as the most promising opportunity, with strong business, diplomatic, and leisure demand. Other attractive routes include Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong in Asia and São Paulo in South America, as well as Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Miami, and Mexico in North America, all of which show high-yield passenger demand.
