Rome Fiumicino kicks off the summer 2026 season after a record-breaking year, continuing its consistent trajectory of growth focused on quality. In 2025, the airport exceeded the 50 million passenger threshold for the first time, handling 51.3 million travellers, representing a +18% increase versus 2019 (+7.8 million passengers) and +4% compared to 2024. Point-to-point traffic grew by 32% (+10 million passengers) versus 2019, outperforming the European average and highlighting a strong demand supported by long-term strategic positioning.

Fiumicino was also awarded “Best Airport in Europe for Service Quality” by ACI World for the 9th year in a row and renewed the 5-Star Airport rating by Skytrax, confirming its focus on passenger experience.

Fiumicino now ranks as the ninth best-connected airport globally (Cirium), offering over 240 destinations across five continents, in around 80 countries, served by nearly 100 airlines. In 2025, 10.8 million long-haul passengers travelled to/from FCO, reflecting a strong expansion of the intercontinental connectivity and traffic.

Looking ahead to 2026, long-haul growth remains central. Alaska Airlines launches Seattle-Rome FCO as its first European route – alongside Delta Air Lines, strengthening West Coast links. ITA Airways introduces the first ever direct Italy-Houston flight while Air India reinstates Delhi.

Key intercontinental routes will also be reinforced. Qantas increases Perth to up to daily frequences over a longer season. Cathay Pacific will operate four weekly flights to Hong Kong, and Singapore Airlines extends its fifth weekly frequency.

In the Americas, LATAM brings Sao Paulo to daily service earlier in the season, while American Airlines (Miami), Delta (Minneapolis) and United (Denver) maintain full summer operations. During peak months, Fiumicino will offer up to 42 daily departures to North America across 22 destinations. Ethiopian Airlines also increases Addis Ababa to two daily flights.

Moreover, Air Seychelles in April has activated flights to Rome FCO, signalling its debut in the Italian market.

Across Europe, expansion continues. Wizz Air will base its 17th aircraft at FCO, supporting the addition of new destinations to Rome including Tallinn and Alexandria. easyJet adds Glasgow, Birmingham and Newcastle. ITA Airways strengthens short-haul connectivity with Marseille, Valencia and Malaga, Norwegian launches Billund, Volotea adds Limoges and Oviedo, and LOT introduces Krakow, alongside further network developments.

These developments, combined with an already extensive network, further strengthen Fiumicino’s role as a key global gateway, positioning the airport for continued, balanced growth.
