Ryanair reopens Trapani base; has 24 routes and 97% of the airport’s capacity

Ryanair Trapani base

Trapani is located on the far western part of the Italian island of Sicily. It is 100km or so around the coast from Palermo. It is situated much closer to the Tunisian capital than it is to the Italian capital.

In early January, Ryanair reopened its Trapani base, having closed in late 2017. It now has two aircraft stationed there. According to Cirium schedule data, Trapani has been part of its map since 2006. It was its second airport in Sicily after Palermo, which had been part of its network since the 1990s. Catania flights materialised in 2013.

Ryanair has 97% of the airport’s capacity

Trapani is one of 20 bases in Italy for the ULCC, and the third in Sicily, alongside Catania and Palermo. Some 341,000 one-way seats are available in the first half of 2026. It is now Ryanair’s 19th most-served Italian airport out of 31 in its network.

Ryanair’s Trapani capacity has increased by 39% year-over-year, which is the consequence of the base reopening. Capacity has increased fivefold compared to 2019, before the pandemic. Aside from DAT’s short hop to Pantelleria, using the ATR 42, Ryanair is the only airline serving Trapani.

Some 24 routes are available in the first half

Its 24-strong route network is shown below. Some 10 destinations are domestic, with Italy accounting for two-thirds of Ryanair’s Trapani capacity. The proportion of international vs. domestic remains broadly the same regardless of the month.

Compared to January-June 2025, six routes will join or rejoin its map, as detailed below. Bari and Verona have been served before (2011-2012). While Stockholm ARN is new, it previously flew to Stockholm NYO (2007-2013).

It appears to be the first time that the Polish city of Lublin has ever had flights to Sicily. And it is the first time that Saarbrücken has had Sicily flights since Luxair stopped flying from Catania in 2010.

Milan BGY is Ryanair’s top Trapani route

With 62,000 one-way seats, Milan BGY is the ULCC’s leading Trapani market. It was also number one when its first base was operational. It accounts for nearly one in five seats (18%).

According to Cirium data for April, some 17-weekly one-way flights are available, far above the average of 3-weekly departures. Only three routes have more than a daily offering, alongside Bologna (12) and Rome FCO (10).
