TAP Air Portugal has 100 routes in the first half of 2025 involving 89 airports, including 13 in Brazil

TAP Airlines

In the first half of 2025, TAP Air Portugal will be the 21st-largest carrier serving Europe by available seats. That finding is based on examining its full network using Cirium schedules information data.

It plans just over 10 million two-way seats, up by 2% compared to the same period in 2024 but down by 5% versus the first half of 2019. Cirium shows that TAP has 44% of Portugal’s domestic capacity, 26% of international and 54% of long-haul. Of course, many long-haul passengers connect in various hubs en route, distorting the figures.

According to Planespotters.net, TAP has 101 aircraft averaging 10.3 years. There are 30 A320ceos/neos, 26 A321ceos/neos/LRs, 22 A330ceos/neos, 12 E190-E1s, seven E195-E1s and four A319ceos. While its regional jets are operated by Portugalia for TAP Express, the rest are mainline.

TAP serves 89 airports in the first half of 2025

They include its primary airports of Lisbon and, in distant second place, Porto. It serves 88 destinations from heavily slot-constrained Lisbon and 12 from Porto.

Some 50 of the 89 airports are in Europe, 14 are in Africa (especially focused on Portuguese heritage), 14 are in South America (especially focused on Portuguese heritage) and 11 are in North America.

They are in 32 countries, with more airports served in Brazil (13) than anywhere else. Spain is next (12), followed by the US (eight) and Portugal itself (seven). Brazil’s number is influenced by the return of Porto Alegre in 2025 and two additional destinations launched in 2024, as discussed below.

These destinations have been added

They are as follows. In contrast, Cirium indicates that TAP’s only destination to have exited its network year-on-year is Agadir. The Moroccan airport was served on a low-frequency basis until September 2024.

  • 3 September 2024: Florianopolis (3-weekly; new destination to map)
  • 4 November 2024: Manaus (3-weekly via Belem in both directions; Manaus was previously served non-stop until 2016)
  • 17 December 2024: Johannesburg (only briefly tagged with Maputo; last served regularly in 2011)
  • 1 April 2025: Porto Alegre (3-weekly; last served in May 2024 due to the area’s floods)
  • 16 May 2025: Los Angeles (4-weekly; last served via Terceira in 1990)

Three of its top routes are domestic

Cirium shows 93 of TAP’s routes are international and seven are domestic. Aside from the new and returning destinations mentioned above, TAP will begin Lisbon-Terceira-San Francisco on 3 June 2025 (weekly).

When seats are considered, three of its top 10 routes are domestic, led as usual by Lisbon-Porto. It would also be first by seats, although Lisbon-Sao Paulo would unsurprisingly be comfortably number one by ASKs, which factors in distance. TAP serves Lisbon-Porto 63-weekly in mid-January and is the only carrier on the short 275-kilometre city pair. Ryanair served it until 2019.
