Impressively all of Spain’s top 15 airports are reporting passenger numbers at least 10% higher than in February 2019. Even allowing for the extra day in February this year, Spanish traffic as a whole is 14% above 2019 levels. Wow!

French airport closed for five weeks

Aéroport de Caen Carpiquet in north-west France has closed to aircraft operations between 11 March and 18 April due to runway works. In 2019 and 2022 the airport handled just over 300,000 passengers, primarily thanks to Air France and Volotea. According to UAF that made Caen metropolitan France’s 25th busiest airport in 2022, just behind Pau, but ahead of Carcassonne. Schedule data suggests that 2023 is likely to have been an even busier year. However, official passenger statistics for last year have yet to be revealed by the airport.

Volotea first served the airport as long ago as 2014. This summer the carrier is offering flights to eight destinations from the airport, all in France. There are three routes to Corsica (Ajaccio, Bastia and Calvi) as well as Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice and Toulouse. Weekly frequencies vary between two and five, depending on the route and the month. While the airport is shut, Volotea is diverting some of its flights to Deauville which is around 50 kilometres away.

Air France is also present at the airport offering up to 3-daily flights to Lyon using HOP!’s E170s, and some peak season services to Calvi and Marseille.

    Shannon AIrport
