Vienna secures new Chisinau flights

SkyUp Airlines will launch flights between Chisinau and Vienna with the start of the 2027 summer season, marking the carrier’s entry into the Austrian capital. The airline will maintain 2-weekly services on Thursdays and Sundays with a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Vienna Airport said the new service will provide additional travel options between Austria and Moldova while also improving connectivity for passengers travelling to and from Ukraine. Since Ukrainian airspace is closed to commercial aviation, Chisinau has developed into an important gateway for Ukrainian travellers due to its proximity to the country. Many passengers travelling internationally to or from Ukraine currently use airports in neighbouring states.

Vienna Airport joint CEO and COO Julian Jager welcomed SkyUp as a new airline partner and said its arrival would further expand the airport’s Eastern European network. He noted that additional services strengthen Vienna’s international connectivity, provide passengers with greater choice and improve travel options both to Moldova and for passengers travelling to and from Ukraine.

SkyUp Airlines CEO Dmytro Sieroukhov described Vienna – Chisinau as an established market experiencing strong growth and demand between Moldova and Central Europe. He said the new nonstop flights would give passengers greater choice and convenient access to the Moldovan capital, while the airline would continue focusing its scheduled network development on routes where direct connectivity offers value to travellers.

SkyUp will compete against Austrian Airlines on the route.

SkyUp was established as a Ukrainian aviation brand in 2017, with SkyUp Airlines commencing operations the following year. Since 2023, the brand has also operated through SkyUp MT (U5), which holds a Maltese Air Operator Certificate and enables operations within the European Union. Since April 2025, SkyUp has operated scheduled services from Moldova, Romania and Poland, linking these markets with major European cities and leisure destinations. According to the carrier’s internal figures, SkyUp transported more than three million passengers and operated almost 20,000 flights during 2025.
