Volotea to open new Ancona base in December

Volotea base launch

Volotea will open a new base at Ancona’s Marche Airport in December 2026, strengthening its presence in Italy and preparing for further expansion from the region. Ancona will become the carrier’s eighth base in Italy and its 22nd across Europe.

The base will house one Airbus A320 and create 30 direct jobs, alongside an estimated 170 indirect positions. Volotea and Ancona Airport are currently analysing local demand and travel flows to identify additional routes, with new destinations expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The recently restored Ancona – Palermo service will also operate throughout the year.

Volotea has served Ancona since 2012 and has carried more than 1.2 million passengers to and from the airport. During the first six months of 2026, the airline recorded a 95% average cabin load factor on its Ancona operations.

The carrier is offering more than 150,000 seats from Ancona this year, representing an increase of 12% compared to 2025. Its network comprises six destinations in three countries: Catania, Olbia and Palermo in Italy, Paris ORY in France, and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain.

Carlos Munoz, Founder and CEO of Volotea, said: “Ancona represents an important milestone in Volotea’s consolidation in Italy: opening a new base means choosing to invest over the long term in a region and in the people who live there. With this 22nd European base, we reaffirm our mission of bringing Europe’s small and medium-sized cities closer together by creating new connections.”

He added: “We are convinced that this new base will help strengthen the Marche region’s role as an increasingly attractive destination that is better connected with the rest of Europe, allowing a growing number of travellers to discover its heritage and excellence. Finally, I would like to thank the local institutions, the Marche Region and the management of Raffaello Sanzio Airport for the trust, cooperation and shared vision that made this important milestone possible. This is only the beginning of a journey that will soon see us announce further developments concerning the expansion of our network.”
