Your runway to future-proof capacity in Northern Europe

Copenhagen Airport to increase annual capacity to over 40 million
Copenhagen Airport is expanding Terminal 3 to strengthen capacity and passenger flows.

Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is in the midst of its most significant infrastructure expansion in decades, ensuring capacity keeps pace with sustained traffic growth while maintaining operational performance.

At the centre of this is the DKK 5 billion expansion of Terminal 3, scheduled for completion in 2027. The project will increase annual capacity to more than 40 million passengers and strengthen core operational areas, including baggage handling, border control, and airside passenger flows.

Expanding core capacity to support future growth

The expansion adds approximately 60,000 square metres of new space and introduces additional baggage reclaim capacity, effectively doubling capacity in key areas. Border control is also being expanded, including new automated lanes in both Pier C and Pier E, supporting continued non-Schengen growth.

Airside capacity is being strengthened through stand development and optimisation. The work includes new and reconfigured stands for modern aircraft types, with the first upgraded stands already in operation, alongside improvements to taxiway infrastructure to support more efficient aircraft movements.

Operational and digital improvements supporting efficient flows

These developments are delivered alongside improvements to both physical and digital passenger processes. New security lanes, updated queuing systems, and enhanced transfer facilities help support efficient flows through the airport.

Digital solutions across check-in, security, and transfer processes are being expanded to streamline passenger handling and reduce processing times.

Together, these improvements ensure that increased capacity is matched by operational efficiency.

Growth supported by capacity and infrastructure

This investment programme comes at a time of continued growth. In 2025, CPH handled 32.4 million passengers and added 47 new routes, reflecting increasing demand across both point-to-point and transfer traffic.

As Morten Mortensen, Head of Airline Sales at Copenhagen Airport, notes: “Growth at CPH is supported by ongoing investments in capacity and operations, ensuring that we can accommodate both current demand and future expansion in a stable and predictable way.”

For our airline partners, the message is clear: Copenhagen Airport is not only growing, but actively building the capacity required to support that growth.
