British Airways introduced flights between London LHR and San Jose in Costa Rica on Sunday 25 October. It marks a change for the route, which previously operated from London LGW. The airline will deploy a 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft on the 8,715-kilometre route.

British Airways is also upgrading the service from seasonal to year-round operations.

Flight BA233 departs London LHR at 11:10 local time, arriving in San Jose at 16:40 local time. The return service, operating as flight BA232, takes off at 18:40 local time, landing at 10:50 local time the following morning.

What they said

Neil Chernoff, Director of Planning and Strategy at British Airways, said: “We are delighted to expand our service from Costa Rica. This expansion will offer greater flexibility for those travelling between the two countries. The new operation is the result of a joint effort between British Airways, AERIS and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute to expand the country’s international connectivity.”

Ricardo Hernandez, CEO of airport operator AERIS, added: “The expansion represents an opportunity to strengthen Costa Rica’s tourism and economic competitiveness. The strengthening of this route reflects the importance of air connectivity for the country’s tourism and economic development. Year-round operations and the connection from Heathrow will also allow passengers to take advantage of British Airways’ international network of destinations.”

British Airways launching four new routes
