New Route of the Day – Americas (16 December 2025): BoA between Santa Cruz and Washington IAD via Panama City

VVI-IAD

The flag carrier of Bolivia, BoA, introduced seasonal flights between Santa Cruz and Washington IAD via Panama City on Tuesday 16 December. Flights will be maintained 2-weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the 737-800 aircraft. Although Copa Airlines maintains 3-daily flights between Panama City and Washington IAD, BoA will not compete on this sector, as its stop in Panama City is purely for refuelling, with no passengers to be either picked up or dropped off.

What they said

Mario Borda, CEO of BoA, said: “The route will benefit the over 400,000 Bolivians living in the United States. This new flight is part of BoA’s recent expansion, which has seen the addition of multiple new international routes since 2023. It is also a way to celebrate our Bicentennial. In parallel with our domestic services, we are launching these operations, which are of great significance to Bolivians living abroad.”

Brian D’Amico, Director, Airline Business Development at Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, added: “This winter seasonal flight is timed perfectly for reuniting families during the holidays. Speaking to some of the 150 passengers on the inaugural outbound, it was clear how much it meant to our community. This seasonal service marks an important milestone for both parties, as Boliviana becomes the second carrier from South America to fly to Washington Dulles and Washington Dulles becomes the second destination in the US with Boliviana service.”

Washington IAD has among highest share of international US traffic

In 2024, Washington IAD broke a 19-year passenger record with 27.25 million passengers. Of those, 10.38 million were international, representing one of the highest percentages of international passengers of total travellers in the US. The airport remains one of the fastest-growing international hub airports in the US.

In May, United launched a new service between Washington IAD and Dakar in Senegal. It became the eighth destination served in Africa from Washington IAD, joining Accra, Addis Ababa, Cairo, Cape Town, Casablanca, Lagos and Lome. As a result, Washington IAD serves more destinations to Africa than any other international airport across all the Americas.

Following BoA, Washington IAD’s international network will grow further, with South Korea’s Air Premia set to launch flights from Seoul ICN in April 2026.
