BGY EXECUTIVE drives surge in Milan Bergamo Airport general aviation traffic

Milan Bergamo Airport recorded 1,546 general aviation aircraft movements during the first eight months of 2026, representing an increase of almost 50% compared with 1,040 during the same period last year. Demand was partly driven by the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, although continued activity in the following months highlighted the growing appeal of the airport’s BGY EXECUTIVE facility.
February was the busiest month of the January – August period, with 333 general aviation movements. By the end of August, the airport had handled 506 more movements than during the corresponding period in 2025.
Launched in June 2025, BGY EXECUTIVE is Milan Bergamo Airport’s dedicated general aviation facility. Its location in northern Italy makes it a gateway for business travel across the region, as well as leisure journeys to the Italian Lakes, the Alps and the Dolomites. Central Milan is approximately 45 minutes away by road.
The facility also provides access to destinations beyond the Italian Alps and is positioned as the closest alternative gateway to St Moritz and Samedan in Switzerland. Passengers can continue to St Moritz by road or by a short helicopter transfer, while operators can use Milan Bergamo Airport for aircraft parking and positioning.
The Winter Games demonstrated the airport’s ability to accommodate demand generated by major international events, particularly from operators requiring aircraft parking. Milan Bergamo Airport operates around the clock and has a dedicated general aviation apron, aircraft parking area and adjoining taxiway.
BGY EXECUTIVE is situated in the northern part of the airport and has its own terminal and road access, separate from the main passenger terminal. Dedicated security and document controls allow passengers and crews to complete arrival and departure procedures within the facility.
Two fixed-base operators, Italy FBO (Delta Aerotaxi) and SkyServices, each operate a lounge inside the BGY EXECUTIVE terminal. General aviation handling services are also provided by BGY International Services, AGS Handling and Argos by AviaVIP.
Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation at airport operator SACBO, said: “The Winter Games gave many operators an opportunity to experience Milan Bergamo Airport firsthand, but our ambition extends well beyond a single event. For a crew planning a flight or a passenger with a demanding schedule, confidence in the whole journey matters. We are working to make BGY EXECUTIVE a dependable choice whenever northern Italy is the destination, whether the visit is for business, a major event or a holiday. This year’s growth shows the potential for relationships that last long after the Games.”
