What they said
Len Corrado, CEO of Flair Airlines, said: ““We’re making it easier and more affordable for Canadians to experience a different part of Mexico, while creating a new connection between our two countries. The new weekly service from Vancouver gives Canadians direct access to Mexico’s Bajío region, including Leon, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende. Thank you to our partners for helping make this new connection possible.”
Russell Atkinson, Director of Air Service Development at Vancouver International Airport, added: “As the first direct link between Canada and Mexico’s Bajío region, this service expands travel options for Western Canadians, and strengthens connections for B.C.’s Mexican community. It’s another example of how growing our network creates new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange.”
Canada – Mexico market to grow by 40% over four years
Mexico remains the top destination for Canadian travellers with 1.3 million visits in the first quarter of 2026, according to Statistics Canada. Canadians visit Mexico nearly three times as much as they do the Dominican Republic, followed by the third most popular destination, Costa Rica. Mexico is so popular the Canadian government projects this market to increase by 40% over the next four years.
The new flight follows Flair’s recent additions to Mexico, including from Vancouver to Mexico City in 2025, and to Guadalajara in 2024.
Leon is Mexico’s fourth largest city, with a population of just over 1.7 million. Last year, the airport handled 3.3 million passengers, making it the country’s tenth busiest.
